A data recovery company should offer a variety of products and services. They should be able to recovery your data whether it be logistical or physical, provide further data recovery software or products, and some even provide online or offsite data backup services. Each company will employ data recovery experts and their staff is specially trained to recover data from your hard drive.

You should ask some questions before you use a data recovery company to gage their success rate, experience, professionalism and services. Once you have the information you need then you can make an informed decision about which data recovery company to use,

The standard of Clean Room is extremely important and many companies are ranked by their standard of Clean Room. The smallest dust particle and one stray fingerprint can destroy your data and make data recovery impossible. Clean Rooms are certified and if you need proof the data recovery company should be able to provide their certification. A good company will have a ranking of class 100 clean room.

If you have lost data due to a mechanical problem then you should use a company that replaces parts. Your drive may be making funny noises, clicking, or not spinning then you will likely need to replace a part if no the whole drive. See what pats of the drive can be replaced or if you need to use a different company.

You also need to be aware of all costs. What will the price be for each type of service or replacement parts? Most data recovery companies will provide you with an initial assessment that should detail what the problem is and how much it is to fix. You should also get prices for additional services if needed and make sure that they get your approval before fixing any problems that were not quoted on the initial assessment.

Remember that your initial assessment will be a broad range quote. Try to narrow the quote down as closely as you can. It is possible for the company to determine the cause of the failure with only a few simple tests and they should pass this information onto you. Also take a close look at free assessments, as there may be clauses that state only specific cases are free.

The data recovery company should provide you with a success rate. This will detail the amount of hard drives in which they have recovered 100% of data, 90% of data, 70% of data and so on. The best data recovery companies can only successfully recover 60 to 75% of all hard drives so don't be fooled by a 95% recovery rate.

If your computer or hard drive is still under warranty they you should make sure that the data recovery company is authorized to maintain that warranty. You can request this information from the manufacturer stating that the company is authorized to open the hard drive without canceling the warranty. It is important to get verifiable proof as a company may claim to be authorized by all manufactures but actually aren't.
